The Whispering Pines Disc Golf Club was founded on
March 26, 2005 by Tony Hollis and Shannon Lolley. The
purpose of the club is to promote the sport of disc golf in
the community and improve the club's home course. The club
is a group of people who enjoy the sport, not a business or
location for meeting. Each member pays a yearly fee of
$10. Once a member, the person receives a contact list for
other members and a numbered bag tag used for competition in
casual and tournament play. Each member's stats are
recorded and are displayed as public club info and posted on
the club message board at the beginning of the course. Club
scores and averages are also posted on this website for
anyone to view.
The club ended its first year with twenty-six members.
Members' ages range from 10 years to 46 years of age. Over
half of the members had never played disc golf before being
introduced to the sport by another club member. With the
creation of a club, one of the benefits is not playing the
sport alone. Club members develop friendships with others.
Those friendships give players the chance to never play
alone and to learn from each other.
From the club's creation to December 2005, the club has
install two new holes. The new additions have expanded the
course from eighteen holes to twenty holes. The club
purchased one basket and thirty bags of concrete for tee pad
installation. Lake Lowndes allowed the club to use the
course practice basket for the second hole. Total funds that
the club required for this project was $450.00.
The club has also helped raise funds for charity. The club
was involved with Family Fun Day sponsored by Kerr McGee
which raised funds for the United Way. The club raised
$110.00 between two rounds of disc golf. All proceeds went
to the United Way charity.
The club's current goal is to lengthen several tee pads and
add several alternate tee pad placements. Future goals are
hole layout pads at each tee pad, bag poles for each pad
location (red, yellow, and blue), and maybe an additional 18
- 20 hole course at the park. The club uses club funds for
each goal. To date, most funds have been generated from
membership dues and donations by club members. The club
hopes to generate more revenue by donations from individuals
and businesses. n-profit umbrella, the club would visit
multiple businesses to raise club funds.
Currently, the club officials are Tony Hollis (President and
Secretary) and Shannon Lolley (Vice-President). The club
had, and will have, elections for officials at the beginning
of each club year. The new officials take office in March.
